White Nintendo DSi Console

Functionality

The white Nintendo DSi console is the third model in the Nintendo DS range, following Nintendo DS and Nintendo DS Lite. It has been designed with the objective of further expanding the Nintendo DS audience and has more functionality than previous generations of the DS.

Portability has been improved. As a result, the Nintendo DSi White is 2.6mm thick or about 12% thinner than DS Lite. This has meant that the slot for GameBoy Advance software has been removed from the unit. Nintendo are confident that they have made it as thin as possible without sacrificing its durability and portability.

White Nintendo DSI console screen sizes

The screen sizes on the white Nintendo DSi console have been increased. Since the weight of LCD screens grow in proportion to their dimensions, the challenge was how to introduce larger LCDs while maintaining the light weight of Nintendo DS Lite. Consequently there has been an 8% increase over the current 3-inch LCD to make it 3.25 inches, which is about a 17% increase in visual area per screen.

The new features include a camera and an audio player function which help the DSi console with the entertainment value of playing with it and enjoying visuals and sounds by using these functions in more proactive and fun ways. Improvement have also been made to the speaker volume and sound quality.

An SD memory card can be inserted into the DSi, and it can be used for both the camera and audio player functions. To make use of the Nintendo DSi Sound, you will need to store sound data in the AAC format on an SD card.

The white Nintendo DSi console has internal memory as well. After storing the data there, you can choose to activate this data from the menu screen. The DSi Camera and the DSi Sound will be included in this internal memory of each DSi.

White Nintendo DSi console camera and camera software

For mobile phones and digital cameras, manufacturers have been increasing the number of pixels in order to appeal to consumers. The camera for the DSi has a 0.3 megapixel resolution, which is significantly lower than many mobile phones and other devices available but after careful consideration it was decided that the way in which the Nintendo DSi white is actually used does not require a higher resolution camera.

The DSi Camera software includes 11 types of special camera lenses. This means that the DSi can take pictures by utilizing a variety of special effects on a real-time basis. You can change the whole picture to black and white, colour the portions you touch or exchange the existing colour with a new one on the area you touch, make a composite picture using preinstalled frames or make the frames for yourselves, draw a variety of graffiti on the pictures, use the technology to recognize human faces and put glasses and moustaches on them, combine two people’s faces with different portions of one’s features, and confirm to what degree two faces resemble each other by utilizing the face-recognition engine. These functions can be enjoyed with the unique Nintendo user interfaces that you are familiar with.

It's easy to keep track of your favorite shots with the Photo Album. Go back and have fun editing the photos you've taken with lenses. Tag your photos with stickers and choose your favorites with a star, to appear on the Nintendo DSi Menu. You can even view a slide show set to music.

If you've got friends in the room with their own Nintendo DSi systems, it's easy for you to send photos to each other. Send or receive photos from your system memory or an inserted SD Card. (sold separately)

A built-in calendar organizes the photos taken each day. Let the Nintendo DSi system keep a daily photo diary for you!

Sound capabilities and sound software

Another new function, the DSi Sound audio player, is not meant to be an ordinary audio playback mechanism. It has been developed so that people can enjoy playing with sounds.

Some typical functions include the ability to change the pitch and the speed separately by using the Touch Screen. The ability to freely manipulate the audio pitch and the speed can expand how the audio player can be used in more practical ways as well. You can fast-forward a Podcast to economize the time. When you use the repeat-run function with the stylus, it becomes easier to copy the music, to play a musical instrument or to practice foreign languages.

Sound Filters
Record your own sound clips, and run them through one of twelve fun filters. Then, save your altered creation as a brand new sound.

Apply one of four different filters to the songs in your playlist. Make your song sound like an 8-Bit Game, or strip out the vocals with the Instrumental filter and see if you can sing better!

Speed and Pitch Control
Drag your stylus on the grid to change the pitch and speed of any recorded sound or song independently. Hear what your friend would sound like as a chipmunk, or play your favorite song in a different key--backwards!

Get practical and slow down a guitar solo to try and play along. Or, speed up a podcast to zip through and get to the good parts faster.

Play with Music
Turn your white Nintendo DSi console into an interactive music player by loading songs in AAC file format onto your SD Card (sold separately).

Use the L and R Buttons to cycle through fun sounds that will add an extra kick to your listening session. Play with speed and pitch control, filters, or add your own pre-recorded sounds on top to add something extra to your favorite songs.*

Listen to your playlist in order, or shuffle it. Call up visualizations on the top screen, or insert a pair of headphones and fold the Nintendo DSi system closed to listen to your tunes on the go.
