White DSi
Operations Guide for the White DSi
The Nintendo DSi white features twin LCD screens. These are backlit colour liquid crystal displays. The second screen is touch sensitive and should only be operated with the supplied stylus. There are 5 levels of screen brightness that can be selected by the user. Changing the screen brightness level is done by holding the Select button down at the same time as you press the volume button (either volume up or volume down) – not entirely obvious but you should not need to do this very often. Select the screen brightness that you are most comfortable with, bearing in mind that the brighter the setting, the shorter the battery life.
The battery must be fully charged before the White DSi is used for the first time. Battery life is between nine and fourteen hours when running at the lowest screen brightness level. When running at the brightest screen setting the battery life is between three and four hours. This should be a key consideration when running on battery power as it is the main thing within the users control when operating away from mains power supplies, say when travelling.
The rechargeable battery pack has a lifetime of around 500 recharges, after which its performance starts to deteriorate and the battery will retain proportionally less of its original power each time it is subsequently recharged. Recharging should take a couple of hours on average. Remember that games can still be played while recharging is taking place and it is a great way is making sure that you have a full battery when you next leave the house.
Indicators are provided to show whether the White DSi is switched on and is running on battery power, is being recharged and whether the wireless function is activated. Once the battery level is running low the power indicator changes from blue to red to warn the user that recharging is required. Take care to ensure that you have saved your game settings when the battery level is low otherwise it is possible that you could lose data. When the DSi is being recharged the recharging indicator glows orange. The wireless indicator blinks when data is being sent.
There are control buttons which are used by different games in different ways.
The unit has built in speakers and a standard audio jack is provided to allow the connection of most types of commercially available headphones to be used. When the headphones are plugged in then the built in speaker automatically mutes so that no sound comes out of it. A volume control is also provided to vary the loudness of the sound produced.
A microphone is contained in the unit to enable interaction with games and applications via sound.
There are two cameras on the Nintendo DSi unit. The first camera is situated on the inner side of the unit facing the user. This enables interaction via video input with games and applications. The second camera is on the external side of the unit and can be used for taken photos which are then stored and manipulated within the DSi
The Nintendo DSi White includes an SD memory card slot to enable further memory capacity to be added to the unit.
